I am so thrilled to announce a new limited edition soap dish collection made in collaboration with Cornish potter, Julia Crimmen.
I love Julia’s beautiful ceramics. We both take inspiration from the coast and Cornish countryside which surrounds our homes.
Like me, Julia developed her business as her family grew up. She puts her success down to continuing to be open to learning new things.
She works from her garden studio and has been the perfect potter to work with to develop beautiful, unique, limited edition ceramics for our customers at Helen Round.
Our first collaboration with Julia was our lovely Ceramic Storage Pot for holding Bamboo Make Up Pads or other bathroom bits! A great bathroom accessory, designed exclusively for us, they are each decorated with either our Honey Bee design or Julia’s trademark spots and stripes in gold lustre.
We thought it might be interesting to add to this popular range with complementary soap dishes, which we absolutely love - we hope that you do too! This time, we have two options, Gold Honey Bee or Gold Spot.
We asked Julia to share more about her work with us:
“The white stoneware clay that I've used for Helen’s pots has a gorgeous fleck in it, which gives a beautiful warmth to the clay. For the soap dishes, we experimented with a few shapes and settled on an oval with small handles at either long end.
Each soap dish has been hand built, and so no two are exactly alike! There are three drainage holes and a carved drainage channel to help the soap dish to drain. Each dish has been fired with a white opaque glaze and decorated with Helen’s honey bee design as well as my trade mark gold spot, using gold lustre.
I love these soap dishes, they are practical, beautiful and complement our ceramic pots beautifully.
All my pots are handmade in my garden studio, where I design and make wheel thrown porcelain and stoneware ceramics. I use simplified stencils and slip to build up pattern and texture, adding rich glossy glazes to enhance these details."
The colours are drawn from my love of the Cornish Coast and the hedgerows I see around my home.
It’s great to work with Helen, another small Cornish business. We both hope you enjoy using the new soap dishes!"
