Earth Day this year is on 22nd April. The theme is Planet v Plastics, a subject very dear to us all here at Helen Round. The stated aim of Earth Day is to set an ambition to reduce environmental waste plastics by targeting a 60% reduction in the production of all plastics by 2040 and build a plastic-free future.
At Helen Round, we create plastic free alternatives to everyday products which help people to consider and reduce their use of single use plastic in the home. We use materials like linen, sourced from Europe, which is Oeko-Tex certified, ensuring it meets high safety and environmental standards and is free from any harmful substance, including plastic! We also use bamboo, a highly renewable resource where almost every part of the plant used and there's very little waste in harvesting or production.
Here are some examples of plastic-free swops that you can do across your home to reduce your plastics footprint.
Plastic Free Kitchens
Reusable Linen Bowl Covers are a great alternative to single use plastic, removing the need for cling film or saran wrap. Washable and stretchy, with lots of colours, sizes and designs to choose from, they are great for protecting your food on the side or in the fridge.
Breathable Linen Bread Bags mean that you can store your bread, either baguette or artisan loaf in lovely linen. Hang up for easy storage and roll down the bag, to fill with slices of bread or rolls for a washing up free bread basket!
This lovely Linen Bottle Bag (£20) is a great way to take a bottle to a party, without using a plastic bag. Gift the bag too or pop it back in your handbag for the next occasion.
Our 100% Compostable Eco Kitchen Sponge Cloths (£7.50 for 2) are crafted from natural cellulose and cotton. Absorbent and durable, these sponge cloths are fully compostable, reducing plastic waste for a greener future.
Plastic Free Bathrooms
Reusable Make Up Pads, (£15) in packs of ten, can be washed and used over and over again.
This Reusable Hair Wrap Towel (£16) was a "Best Buy" in the Green Parent Awards. It absorbs moisture from hair, reducing drying time and the frizz which can result from heating products.
On one side of our Reusable Eco Sponge (£8) you'll find a super soft bamboo surface to nourish your skin, and on the other, a gently exfoliating linen to leave your skin feeling fresh and supple. An eco-friendly alternative to disposable plastic sponges.
Our commitment to sustainability is at the heart of every product we create.
We have designed a range of beautiful products that replace things that would otherwise be single use, making it easy and intuitive to live more sustainably.
We're working towards creating a world where nothing goes to waste. We craft pieces that stand the test of time, so they can be cherished for years to come. There is very little waste from our production process, and what there is we reuse in other products.
