Commitment to Sustainability: Reducing Our Carbon Footprint
We are excited to share a significant milestone in our journey here at Helen Round. Recently, we took a deep dive into our operations and calculated our carbon footprint baseline. It initially felt like a bit of an undertaking but has actually really helped us get a good understanding of where our emissions come from. We discovered that our most significant contributors to carbon emissions are our raw materials, particularly textiles, and shipments from our e-commerce operations.
We have been quietly working on sustainable practices for some time, and our baseline calculation shows it's been paying off. Our overall carbon footprint remains reassuringly low, and that's something we're proud of.
Here are some of the initiatives that have contributed to our low carbon footprint:
Responsible Sourcing: We have always been committed to sourcing ethically produced and environmentally responsible materials for our products. This conscious choice has a direct positive impact on our carbon emissions.
Efficiency in Production: We design the products we make to minimise waste and energy consumption. Wherever there is waste, we try to find a use for it, like our draught excluders made from our textile offcuts for example. It's about producing responsibly and with care for our planet.
Thoughtful Packaging: We have adopted environmentally responsible packaging choices, reducing excess packaging wherever possible and re-using packaging for our orders. Reused packaging covers most of our needs but we do buy some boxes, which are made from FSC certified cardboard, ensuring that the materials used in their production come from responsibly managed forests. All our packing tape is made from paper and easily recycled along with the cardboard boxes, allowing for a seamless recycling process. Or even better, we would love it if you could reuse our packaging again! By extending the lifespan of our packaging materials, we contribute to reducing waste and preserving resources together.
So what's next? We're not stopping here. As we plan ahead, we are looking to further reduce our carbon footprint through ongoing innovation and collaborations with like-minded partners. (Section on goals/reductions here – let’s discuss what you’re comfortable to include) Our priority now is to reach net zero across our own operations by switching to renewable energy. We are actively exploring sustainable delivery options, which include carbon-neutral delivery services and optimising our delivery routes with our delivery partner.
We will continue to update you on our progress as we work towards an even ‘greener’ sustainable future for Helen Round.
Thank you for being part of our journey.
